- Carbon Monoxide
A report prepared by the National Institute for Occupational Safety
and Health describes areas about
houseboats where carbon monoxide concentrations form. They asked for
our recommendations to resolve
the problem and also asked us to share our safety awareness program.
We have responded to them and plan to assist the United States Coast
Guard in promoting a higher degree of safety for our industry. As
most of you know, all Sharpe Houseboats have generator exhausts vented
to the side. We delivered our first houseboat in April of 1998 with
this safety precaution in mind. The cavity below the swim platform
appearsto be the most dangerous area. We have addressed this concern
along with four other specific concerns on a new warning sign. All
boats built after September, 2000 have the sign installed on the rear
deck area, most often on the side of the locker at eye level. We are
attempting to install these warning signs on all boats as we deliver
new boats to each marina. If you boat does not yet have this sign
installed, please contact us.
- Marine Sanitation Devices
The Federal Water Pollution Control Act is receiving much attention
at all levels of national, state, and local
enforcement. We urge all houseboat owners to be familiar with the
Type I, Type II, and Type III MSD's
and to understand the operating requirements of the waterway on which
your houseboat is used. All Sharpe
Houseboats are manufactured to meet the requirements of the lake to
which it is delivered but if circumstances change or you have any
questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Clean water is essential.
PRE-OWNED HOUSEBOATS
We have received several inquiries from Sharpe Houseboat owners looking
to move up to larger and newer
models. Although we normally have not taken trade-ins, we would like
to assist current Sharpe owners in the resale of your houseboat. We
feel the original manufacturer could command a premium price for our
own product line. If you would like for us to promote your houseboat,
please call and inquire about our seller representation agreement.
Happy Houseboating,
The Crew at Sharpe Houseboats
